High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) directly delivers heat energy to the skin and subcutaneous tissue that can stimulate and renew the skin’s collagen and therefore improving the texture and reducing sagging and drooping of the skin. It literally achieves the results of a facelift without any invasive type of surgery or injections; an added bonus of this procedure is that there is no downtime. This technique can be applied to the face as well as other parts of the body, and also, it works equally well for people of all skin colours, in contrast to that of lasers and the intense pulse lights.
The treatment uses 2 different size headpieces. The 3mm headpiece is used for transmitting a high frequency of 8 MHZ focused ultrasound energy into the dermis layer of the skin tissue, the ultrasound penetrates the skin to a depth of 3.0mm and is responsible for activating the skin’s dermal layer of collagen, effectively promoting the reduction and the appearance of wrinkles.
The second head is a 4.5mm headpiece which is used to transmit high-energy focused ultrasound to the skin and subcutaneous tissue, the ultrasound penetrates the skin to a depth of 4.5mm which is known as the SMAS (Superficial muscular aponeurotic system) layer, forming “heat coagulation” and is applied to thicker areas of the skin, such as cheeks, etc.
Each treatments takes approximately 45 minutes, but may be performed within 30 minutes. Some patients report feeling a slight prickling or heat under the skin.
The HIFU skin-tightening procedure is usually performed using a smooth hand piece that delivers highly focused ultrasound energy that safely heats up the subcutaneous layer at designated depth. Most clients will need only one session. Results will appear over 2 to 3 months or even up to 6 months following treatment. Your body will continue to produce fresh collagen over the course of the next year. You can have repeat top up treatments should you require them.

Medications (primarily blood thinners), prescription drugs and alcohol should not be consumed on the day of treatment. It is important to check with your therapist about your medications and be honest. If you have had Botox or fillers, you must leave for 2 weeks before having this treatment.
No heating treatments are to be done on the day of procedure such as laser or pulsed light treatments. Keep your therapist updated with any changed health issues, new medications or reactions as you
continue with your treatments.
No makeup should be worn if having HIFU on the facial area.
Men should be clean shaven if the treatment is on the facial area.
Clients may sometimes experience nausea, some discomfort or slight pain. This is more typical when the treatment is taking place and only lasts temporarily. If you have the treatment on the forehead or jawline you may have a stinging sensation or mild headache. You can take Ibuprofen before or after the treatment.
Avoid exposing your skin to extremes of heat and cold and protect your skin with a sun block cream. Your normal makeup regime can be followed immediately, but avoid using skin care products that may irritate your skin for 24 hours.
Bruising, swelling and tenderness can occur (although rarely) in the treated area. Bruising may not be evident for several days following the treatment and often is greenish in colour. Most common areas for bruising are along the jawline and cheekbone.
Even without bruising, tenderness to the touch is possible. This is usually most evident along the jawline and cheekbone and most often noted when touching your face, washing or applying makeup. This will not interfere with eating, talking or moving your facial muscles and is only temporary.
